Witness appeal - Lurgan

Published Date: 4 February 2011

An appeal for witnesses has been made after a police discharge of a baton round in response to disturbances in Lurgan last weekend (29th January 2011).

The use of the Attenuated Energy Projectile (AEP) is being investigated by the Police Ombudsman's Office, as is normal procedure whenever the police discharge a firearm.

A spokesman for the Office said, "We are looking to get a clear understanding of what happened, and are interested in speaking to people who may have witnessed the disturbances in the Lake Street area of Lurgan on Saturday evening at around a quarter past six."

Anyone with information who feels they can assist the investigation is asked to call the Police Ombudsman Witness Appeal Line on 0800 032 7880.
