Witness appeal - Fatal RTC, Frosses Road

Published Date: 18 March 2011

The Police Ombudsman's Office has issued a witness appeal following a fatal road traffic accident on the Frosses Road, between Ballymena and Ballymoney yesterday (17 March).

The deceased, 32 year-old Julia Kerr, had been arrested for a motoring offence and taken to Ballymena police station the previous evening. Following her release she attended Ballymoney police station on the morning of Wednesday 17th March 2011, leaving the station alone around 9am driving a yellow Renault Megane (registration RBZ 1695). A short time later, she was involved in a road traffic collision in which she sustained fatal injuries.

The Police Ombudsman is now investigating events prior to Ms Kerr's death as part of normal protocol whenever a person has died following contact with the police.

"We are looking to speak to anyone who may have known Julia Kerr and was in contact with her on the evening of Wednesday 16 March," a spokesman from the Ombudsman's Office said.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen her and the yellow Renault Megane car between the hours of 8.00am and 9.20am on Thursday 17 March, as this may provide us with information that will help our investigation"

Anyone who feels they may be able to help is asked to call the Police Ombudsman's Witness Appeal Line on 0800 345 7106.
