Published Date: 9 August 2006

Two men have been arrested this morning as part of a major Police Ombudsman investigation.

Two men have been arrested this morning as part of a major Police Ombudsman investigation.

The two, who are former police officers, were arrested by Police Ombudsman investigators shortly after seven o'clock this morning. PSNI officers were also in attendance.

Two premises have also been searched.

The two are now being questioned by Police Ombudsman investigators at separate police stations about a number of matters including attempting to pervert the course of justice and misconduct in public office.

The arrests form part of a major Police Ombudsman investigation arising from a complaint made by Mr. Raymond McCord into the police handling of the investigation of his son's murder by the UVF in 1997.

The Police Ombudsman's Senior Director of Investigations, Justin Felice, has described this mornings operation as unusual but absolutely necessary.
