Templepatrick Taser discharge: Police Ombudsman investigating

Published Date: 31 December 2008

The Police Ombudsman is investigating the police use of a taser during an incident at Templepatrick in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 31 December 2008).

At approximately 4.30am police were called to the Hilton Hotel, Templepatrick, where a man was reported with what appeared to be a handgun.

The man ignored warnings from the police, who then discharged a taser in an attempt to disarm him. He was restrained and subsequently arrested and is currently being held in police custody.

Taser discharges are automatically referred to the Police Ombudsman for independent investigation and Police Ombudsman investigators are now at the scene.
