Statement from Police Ombudsman’s Office on the John Downey referral

Published Date: 27 February 2014

The PSNI has referred the Abuse of Process Judgement in the John Downey court case to the Police Ombudsman’s Office.

The Chief Constable said he was of the view  it was a matter of public confidence that the Office should conduct an investigation into the actions of former or serving PSNI officers in 2007, as referred to in the judgement. The Police Ombudsman, Dr Michael Maguire, has said his investigation will also cover the actions of police officers  in 2008 and 2009, which were also referred to in the judgement.
