Quarterly Bulletin: Complaints Up By 13%

Our quarterly statistical bulletin has been published and shows complaints about police have risen by 13%.

The Office received 926 complaints between April and June 2023. This is a 13% increase in the number of complaints received when compared with the same period in 2022. It is also the highest number of complaints received in quarter 1 when compared with the previous five years.

'Criminal Investigation' was the most common main complaint factor underlying complaints, accounting for just over a third of complaints received during this time.

The Office received 1,600 allegations between April and June 2023. This is a 10% increase in the number of  allegations received in the same period in 2022. It is also the highest number of allegations received  in quarter 1 when compared with the previous five years. 

'Failure in Duty' was the most common allegation type received, accounting for half of all allegations.
