Published Date: 23 January 2001

The Police Ombudsman’s Office is investigating the death of a man in Derry in the early hours of Tuesday morning. His body was found in a van parked on the Strand Road.

The man had been released from police custody earlier in the morning. At this stage a crime is not suspected.

Under the new arrangements, in circumstances such as this the Chief Constable refers such cases to the Police  Ombudsman, who will investigate.
