Police Ombudsman investigates police station death

The Police Ombudsman has launched an investigation following the death of a 40-year-old man while in police custody in Derry/Londonderry.

The man had been arrested and was being detained at Strand Road police station following an incident involving a member of the public on Friday 2 October.

All deaths in police custody in Northern Ireland are referred by the PSNI to the Police Ombudsman for independent investigation.

Police Ombudsman investigators are at the scene and have commenced an independent and impartial investigation. A report will be published at the conclusion of the investigation.
