Office informed of Derry/Londonderry death

Published Date: 22 September 2011

The Police Ombudsman's Office has been informed of the death of a man yesterday evening (21 September) in Derry/Londonderry.

The incident was referred to the Office as this is normal protocol if an individual dies within 24 hours of police contact. Earlier yesterday the police had accompanied officials from HM Revenue and Customs during a search of business premises in the Waterside area where the man worked.

The Office, which does not have the powers to look into the actions of HM Revenue and Customs, is currently getting an initial assessment of what happened, following which investigators will decide if a full investigation is appropriate.
