Making a complaint as a young person
Learning for Life and Work GCSE
No matter what age you are, you have a right to complain if you’re not happy about something that happened to you which involved the police or with how you have been treated by the police.
Currently around 2% of our complaints every year come from young people under 18 and around 8% come from those aged between 18 and 25.
We would like more young people to know about the police complaints system and to feel confident about making a complaint to us – it’s free to complain and we’re entirely independent from the police.
In this section we explain what we do, how to complain as a young person and what you can expect if you do make a complaint.
You will also find useful information if you’re studying for your ‘Learning for Life and Work’ (LLW) GCSE.
